Trip of a Lifetime!

Made it home last Friday after an incredible month of travel and fishing.  This has been a trip of a lifetime!  It’s a good thing that we got out of the west when we did with the weather and the national park closures, do to our fantastic government.  A lot of the places that we were fishing have seen close to 2 feet of snow now, which would have made for tough camping since we were not prepared for full on winter camping.  Here are some stats from our month of travel:

  • 13 rivers and various sections of a river fished including: Manistee River, Yellowstone River (Livingston, MT), East Gallatin River, Gallatin River, Madison River (MT), Beaver Creek, Yellowstone River (Park), Firehole, New Fork River, Green River, Big Horn River and Wind River.
  • 2 National Parks visited: Yellowstone and Theodore Roosevelt
  • 6 species of fish caught: Yellowstone Cutthroat, Snake River Cutthroat, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Whitefish.
  • 6 days, the longest period without a shower while in Yellowstone National Park.
  • 0 bear encounters and no use of the bear spray.
  • 2 moose encounters creating detours while wading a river.
  • 3 guides used on trip for the Manistee River, Yellowstone River (Livingston, MT), and Bighorn River.
  • 1 broken guide on my 5 wt.
  • 0 speeding tickets and fines.
  • 2 times our fishing licenses were checked.
  • 7,332 miles covered for the whole trip from Boston and back (9/5/13-10/4/13).
  • 2 buses taken from South Station Boston to Port Authority NYC and back.
  • 6 cans of chicken eaten.
  • 1 bottle of whiskey and many beers drank.
  • 41 days until I drive back west to Utah for the winter!

Time to pray for snow, because in a month and a half I will be back on the road heading to Utah for the winter to ski and work.  Here are some more pics from the trip:
